ILLEGAL FINGER-PRINTING OF EXPATRIATE TEACHERS
The Bahamas Union of Teachers is very concerned about the instructions given to EXPATRIATE TEACHERS to be finger printed. For the past two (2) weeks the President of the union has been in communication with the Ministry and Department of Education, Ministry and Department of Labour, Department of Public Service about this matter, all to no avail. The expatriate teachers jobs are being threatened if they do not provide finger prints, these prints is costing them $100.00 each.
Today, the Principal of C R Walker Ms Trevor Mckay went to the extreme and loaded all expat teachers from her school onto a bus and had them transported them to Criminal Detective Unit to be fingerprinted. This is against the law, the Employment Act 2001, and when President Belinda Wilson called her to enquire about the matter Ms Mckay she said she was busy and she hung up the telephone.
ANNOUNCEMENT FOR EXPATRIATE TEACHERS - All expatriate teachers who are members of the Bahamas Union of Teachers are advised by Belinda Wilson, President not to fill out any form for FINGER PRINTING and you are NOT to be finger printed. Be advised that the President is seeking further information about this matter and it is against the LAW. There was NO CONSULTATION with the Union on this matter.
